We estimate that around 8.6 percent of all VET program commencements in 2017 were in courses delivered fully online, which is not an insignificant figure,Simon Walker, NCVER managing director
A friend pointed me to this article by Matt Johnston in the itnews blog this morning. Completion rates for online VET courses are 10% lower than VET courses delivered by other methods. The article suggests that, for VET at least, online students are reporting a lower satisfaction than their peers.
Certainly, any online course has challenges but many VET qualifications are no doubt difficult to transform into well designed online courses. My own take is that this might suggest a rethinking of how we design and deliver this material. Just putting a PDF online isn’t going to cut it.
