I never start the year on January 1st. It just doesn’t make sense; you’re still in that pseudo weekday/weekend time then. No, the first day of the year is the first workday (which for me is the first Monday). Hence, this year, tomorrow is the first real day of 2019.
With my current job, I get two weeks off during Christmas (which is a real bonus). This Christmas break I had a number of plans. There was a long laundry list of things I wanted to working. Programming, working around the house,
I did none of that. Well, to be fair, I didn’t complete any of it, there were certainly subtasks that were finished. But I didn’t get everything done from that list.
I did something much more productive.
I did nothing.
I relaxed. I recharged. I got some really good sleep. I drank some very fine whisky. I talked with some old dear friends.
And I forgave myself for not going all crazy that I didn’t do 30 days worth of to-dos in the 14 days I had.
And tomorrow it’s the new year, for real, and it’s time to get to work.
